"Nice to meet such cogenial people. Better when we get to know each other properly, and can trade insults with impunity. Still too polite. Need to get beyond the pleasantries boudery."

Wilfred Gaunt (Mar 20, 2008)

"It's stil early days, I don't know what the future holds, but it was interesting to exchange ideas. It would be nice if there were more women, I don't know what the others think about that!"

Silvana V. (Mar 20, 2008)

"Going well I would say. Thankyou Glen and Quentin. Essential to keep it "simple" as Quentin so skillfully emphasised. A simple aim that needs skill to keep it on track."

martin (May 2, 2007)

"Good group of people. Some people were clearly sensitive to their views being attacked - a bit more facilitation would be better in future."

Tubataxidriver (Apr 30, 2007)

"Thought it was great. Wish I could have stayed for drinks and to meet people afterwards a bit more. Some of the people I would gladly go out socially with as well, seem like a very fine bunch of people generally as well, all round."

Alex Millar (Apr 30, 2007)

"I'm still not sold on the term "Bright" and prefer "Freethinker" or just "Humanist" . I think the more labels that can be avoided, the better. Was great to meet more like-minded (i.e. free minded) people though, and I will come again..."

Gavin (Mar 2, 2007)

"I enjoyed meeting likeminded people and will definately be attending more."

saleema (Mar 2, 2007)

"I was pleased to see more women as there have been a lot more men than women in previous meetups I have been to, although I have only been going for about 6 months. Look forward to more events."

amanda (Dec 19, 2006)

"Good Luck guys"

stewgreen (Oct 25, 2006)

"This meetup group has got the right idea it needs to grow and become more dynamic"

TITILAYO (Sep 30, 2006)

"Interesting bunch of people. Still well worth going along. I shall be there next time (DV)"

John Cowen (Sep 26, 2006)

"Good for its purpose."

Dr Helen Bright (Sep 5, 2006)

"It's always good to meet people with whom you share views and beliefs, and it was a relief that the Brights are not in the business of creating yet another 'ism'. I've been doing a sporadic blog since June, and the Brights meeting felt like a good place to network, and to talk through ideas for the blog and other ways of spreading the word. I'm definitely going to get one of the magnetic car stickers that Quentin talked about."

PBroon (Sep 5, 2006)

"Definitely planning on attending again."

Matthew Austin (Sep 4, 2006)

"A great range of speakers- keep it up Glen's summaries of rambling questions are very helpful"

Des Langford (Feb 21, 2006)

"Its a great group that has many interesting members. If the group were to grow, we would be able to attract more varied or high profile speakers."

James Hobson (Oct 25, 2005)

About this Meetup

A bright is a person who has a naturalistic worldview. A bright's worldview is free of supernatural and mystical elements. The ethics and actions of a bright are based on a naturalistic worldview.

The word bright was coined as a noun in 2003. Its definition is focused on the common denominator of 'groups' such as atheists, humanists, secularists, rationalists, free thinkers, etc. As such it is an umbrella term.

We want brights to be noticed as a constituency in a country where over 15% of people have no religious affiliation. To do this we will build its membership and find opportunities to campaign for change.

We have lively and stimulating conversation and debate at the London meetups over liquid refreshment. Topics range from faith schools to the European constitution, from current affairs to the history of religion. Come and find out for yourself.

Note that this meetup is run jointly with the London Atheists Meetup. There is also a UK-wide brights discussion forum at Google Groups BrightsUK forum.
