The York Brights Meetup Group
|
Meet other local people whose worldview is naturalistic - ie free from supernatural and mystical beliefs. To read more about this, have a look at www.the-brights.net. No militant intentions and no specific plans at the moment - just a chance to spend the occasional evening with likeminded people. If you've got any ideas or suggestions, bring them along!

Our next meeting:
The York Brights May Meeting
Meetup time is now from 7:30 as this was more convenient for some of our members.
This is a very new group, so no particular plans or expectations. Just come along and say hello! We'll be happy to move to more planned/organised things as the months go by, but for now it'd be great just to see if there's enough interest to get something going. And a nice chance to spend an evening with a few like-minded people. Read more

"Thanks for the welcome Ewan! I don't think I'll be able to make it to the meetup on the 21st of May - but I should be able to make it to the one after that."
-
"Welcome, James! Make yourself comfortable. Hope to meet you in the Starre sometime soon - I think you'll find everyone's a friendly bunch."
-
"Hi Des - great to hear from you! Looking forward to meeting you whenever that may be. In the meantime, we always keep the Meetup.com stuff up to date so you'll always know what's going on."
-
"Hi , I am an atheist and bright living in Doncaster. York is the nearest meetup for me, but because it is about an hour away on the train I probably won't be a regular attendee. However, please keep me informed as I'd like to get to the odd meeting."
-
"Hi Antje - nice to hear from you! We're normally around until about 10pm, so yes, do feel free to drop in and say hello later in the evening. Hope to meet you soon!"
-
"Quite an interesting group. Looking forward to meet you."
-
"Hi Ed! Not to worry - John couldn't come either as was ill. Hope the exams went ok! We talked about all sorts of things, including hedgehogs and lizards... I'd say the main discussion was about the concept of people labelling themselves as Brights and also Christian etc (eg "I'm a Christian but I don't believe in god, miracles or anything supernatural".) Interesting issue... See you soon anyway!"
-
"Sorry that I did not attend after all. I did not do very well on Wednesday's exam, so I thought that I had better make up for it by revising lots for today's. What did you all talk about last night?"
-
"Hi Paul - Nice to meet you! Thanks for saying hello - hope to see you in person sometime soon."
-
"Hello, I hope to come to one of your meetings in the future. Also, some of you may not be aware of the Humanist Society of West Yorkshire, who meet in Leeds on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. www.wyhumanists.org. uk"
-
"Thank you for the welcome. I Look forward to the next meetup whenever that is."
-
"Hi Ashton - and welcome! Sadly you've just missed our meetup this month by a couple of days - but really hope to meet you in January! Feel free to get in touch if there's anything you'd like to know beforehand."
-
"Thanks, Ewan! I do want to come on Wednesday and meet the York Brights. The reason why I am a "maybe" is that my boiler has broken down, so, if a plumber can come on that day, I'm going to have to give priority to that. My house is freezing, and it's hard to get a plumber this time of year. It's good to see that York is organising Bright activities though. I am on the Richard Dawkins forum if any of you are on it. Name is Aveyard, as in my surname."
-
"Hello everyone.....I am Dave ....it will be nice to meet up with people to exchange stories about why they have abandonned religion and how they find meaning without believing in hokum"
-
"I'm Carl 43 and a chef, I am looking at changing my career but not sure what I want to do just yet. I enjoy reading , radio and love a good debate."
-
"Hi. I'm interested in freethinking and scepticism and other such stuff. Beer and pubs are nice too, though not essential. This is a friendly and open-minded group with lots of potential so come along."
-
"This is the place to continue the conversation between monthly Meetups. Get to know your local Meetup community, ask questions, answer questions, talk about your last get-together--it's up to you. We..."
